Iris Riviere was never fond of the Taldan region she originated in. In her youth she would travel the region and the world, pushing her body to the limits while she took in as much of the world as possible. She had a keen interest in mysticism, but never displayed any sort of powers as a youth. Nevertheless, while she certainly kept her body busy, constant meditation, trips to places of learning and mental honing ensured her mind remained as strong as ever as well. As she continued to self-reflect and take in more and more information, to her surprise she began to show signs of developing psychic powers; the movement of small objects, the creation of small insignificant items. Eventually she could even form a psychic buffer between her and harms way, which was very important in her wild youthful ways!
Eventually though, age began to show in Iris. It was at this time she met Professor Petros Lorrimor. His mind was what attracted Iris to him the most; she had never before come across such an inquisitive and intelligent person. This was enough to follow him back to Ustalav, where eventually their love grew to such an extent that they had a child together, Kendra.
While they were ultimately a happy family, they never really felt connected in the household. Petros had a tendency to be a bit absentminded when it came to the family, as he was always off teaching somewhere or learning about some new obscure information. Iris continued to develop her mental energies as her body started to let her down, with her abilities growing exponentially; she truly had a connection with the psychic energies within, and was able to display astoundingly accurate divinations using her prismatic crystal and other fantastic displays of psychic energy. All of these things left Kendra out in the dust though, and she never felt a strong connection with either parent. Inevitably, from this neglect, there was a big falling out. In the middle of the argument Iris lost control momentarily, and Kendra fell victim to a powerful thrust of psychic energy. Iris has never forgotten Kendra’s eyes as her mind was invaded and overloaded in an instant, her face going ashen and dropping to the floor.
Once Kendras damaged mind had healed thanks to Iris’ gentle hand and psychic expertise, the family nonetheless decided it was best to split, with Petros taking Kendra to Ravengro and Iris deciding to remain in Lepidstadt. Her brush with how devastating her powers can be has crippled Iris mentally for now, with her being unable to use all but the most basic of powers that she originally knew. Surprisingly, after the family split they managed to grow closer together, with Iris and Kendra keeping regular contact with each other and Petros as well. There is no ill-feelings between the family members after the horrific events of that fateful day, and ultimately her family is what brings Iris the most happiness in her life. She balances this love of family with the horror of what she nearly wrought, just as she tries to balance and perfect her body and mind every day of her solitary life in Lepidstadt.
